Join me with Special Guest-Shirley Moore Smeal is executive deputy secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, serving as second in command of the agency, and is president of the National Association of Women Executives in Corrections.Moore Smeal began her career in the corrections department in 1987 as a clerk-typist at the State Correctional Institution at Huntingdon, moving progressively up the ranks to serve in increasingly responsible positions, including as superintendent of SCI Muncy and regional deputy secretary. She has been executive deputy secretary since April 2010 and served as acting secretary from August 2010 to January 2011.Moore Smeal has served as chairperson for the annual Executive Women's Leadership Conference and chairperson for the 2014 Women Working in Corrections and Juvenile Justice Conference.
